Welcome to the Humboldt Curriculum Renewal Cycle

The purpose of this webpage is to introduce our curriculum cycle, as well as provide documents and links to support the work of the Humboldt teaching staff in designing curriculum to meet the 21st Century needs of our students.

A Note from your Curriculum Director to the Humboldt Staff:

The Iowa Core Curriculum’s  focus is on the core content areas of literacy, math, science, and social studies.  As a district we also need to utilize and build on the other content areas such as CTE who have been doing it “right” for years, focusing on mastering competencies & implementing 21st Century Skills.  As well as foreign language, art, music, media and pe with Student Centered Instruction and tapping into resources like  guidance, tag, and special education that emphasize Meeting the Needs of all Learners.  With our experienced personnel and equipment resources for Technological Literacy in our media centers/tech office, combined with your expertise in your profession, our students will be equipped with the skills necessary to continue their growth through 21st Century Learning.  Each of us is fortunate to be an integral  piece of a district that provides the resources and time and opportunity for collaboration across grade and content levels.  TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE TIME ALLOWED……..Missing pieces prevent success……….you need each other!

The Curriculum Cycle is built around supporting Humboldt’s past and current initiatives, grounded in research-based professional development emphasized during the research year and aligned with the STATE-MANDATED, legislated Iowa Core.  Take a look at the cycle through vertical eyes and focus on the progress/sequence of the steps in the cycle, so that you can remind yourself of  the importance of focusing on the Right Work at the Right Time.  You are the RIGHT People and  I (we) appreciate your hard work and dedication in doing what you know is best for our students.

I’d like to say that my door is always open at Taft Elementary, but I can say that I am almost ALWAYS available by e-mail or my cell phone.
